St George's Cathedral & Museum
ቅዱስ ጊዮርጊስ ካቴድራል
Commissioned by Menelik II after the victory at Adwa and dedicated to Ethiopia's patron saint, this octagonal cathedral saw the coronations of Empress Zewditu and Emperor Haile Selassie. Inside are works by celebrated painter Afewerk Tekle, and the compound museum holds one of the country's best collections of church treasures.
☀️ Local tip
The Piassa area around it was heavily rebuilt in the 2024-25 corridor project — the cathedral itself was preserved. Ask at the gate for the museum keyholder if it looks closed.
