Below the Entoto foothills near the US Embassy, Shiro Meda is Addis's traditional-clothing market: rows of stalls selling handwoven white cotton dresses (habesha kemis), gauzy netela shawls and gabi blankets, much of it woven nearby. Recent reorganization moved many street-side stalls into a more orderly market building, but the weaving heritage remains.

Prices are negotiable — compare a few stalls first; a quality hand-embroidered dress costs several times a machine-made one, and it shows.
