Menagesha Suba Forest Park

Planted by royal decree in the 15th century on the slopes of Mt Wechecha, Menagesha Suba is often called Africa's first protected forest. Trails wind beneath centuries-old juniper and wanza trees, home to colobus monkeys, Menelik's bushbuck and endemic birds like the Abyssinian woodpecker.
☀️ Local tip
The access road is rough — a 4x4 helps, especially in the rains. Bring a picnic and binoculars; over 150 bird species have been recorded.
