Kaldi's Coffee

Founded in 2005, Kaldi's cheekily borrowed the Starbucks look and became a phenomenon: dozens of always-packed branches serving macchiatos, ice cream sundaes and burgers to Addis's middle class. Named for the goatherd who legendarily discovered coffee, it's a slice of contemporary Ethiopian pop culture.

The 'special macchiato' is the order; branches are everywhere, so drop in wherever you are — the Bole Road ones are handy near the airport.
