Gefersa Reservoir
The reservoir that supplies much of Addis's water doubles as one of the closest serious birding sites to the capital: wattled ibis, blue-winged geese, ducks and other Ethiopian highland endemics gather along its shores and marshy edges. It makes an easy half-day out combined with Menagesha Suba forest further west.
☀️ Local tip
Bring binoculars and go early morning; view from the roadside and dam area, as access around the shore is informal.
